HISTORY

Switzerland is one of the oldest democracies in the world. In fact, Switzerland was founded in the heart of Europe on 1 August 1291. The country has a long political and military neutrality tradition. In 1863 Henri Dunant founded the International Committee of the Red Cross. Switzerland was the first western country in 1950 to recognize the People’s Republic of China, and since then excellent relations of friendship have been maintained between the two countries.
